Tolmachoff Farms
With Halloween rapidly approaching, I really wanted to get out to a pumpkin patch! I’m sure I’ve been to one before, but it’s been a LONG time; so I figured it was time for a do over. Last week, I made the trek over to Glendale to check out Tolmachoff Farm’s Pumpkin Days and Corn Maze experience; the month-long fall adventure full of everything you’re looking for in a pumpkin patch!
As I’ve been telling everyone about my time at Tolmachoff Farms, my first piece of advice has to be: bring a friend! I went out by myself, and for exploratory purposes that was just fine; but you’ll definitely have a better time if you bring a friend, a date, or your kid(s). Once you’ve selected your plus one (or more), you may need to prepare for some time in the car. My 30 minute drive wasn’t bad, but it would be a good idea to have a playlist or podcast cued up if you’re a bit further of a jaunt from the pumpkin patch.
I went on a Wednesday afternoon, definitely a slower time, but I had lots of room and opportunities to explore all that Tolmachoff Farms has to offer. There is an entry fee, but if you’re just looking to purchase a pumpkin, their shop near the entrance is open to the general public. They had boatloads of pumpkins to choose from with a large variety of shapes and sizes, get over there while they still have some left! This would also be a cute spot to grab a photo if that’s all you’re looking for.
After paying my entry fee, I made my way right over to the corn maze. I had seen online that they shape the maze into a spooky shape every year, I think this year it was a farmer! There was an observation deck available to see the design, but I didn't feel like climbing up and getting cozy with the people already up there. Tolmachoff Farms offers a unique way to make your way through the maze, offering a printed map or digital, interactive version. I chose the interactive one, finding clues within the maze to unlock pieces of the map. At some point I lost track of where I was and I relied on my sense of direction to get out. I usually write off corn mazes as relatively simple, but I did get turned around a few times! Not many people were in the corn maze with me since it wasn’t busy, so it was just a little spooky being in there all alone. Once I found my way out, I walked around the expansive grounds. There wasn't much else I participated it, mainly because most stuff was for kids, but I took some photos and stopped by to see the animals in the petting zoo. At this point, I realized that it would’ve been nice to have a companion who could take pictures of me, but I ended up taking a selfie and some landscape shots. As I try to develop my content and online presence, I took some time to make an Instagram Reel while I was walking around. It was nothing special, but I took some sweeping landscape clips to stitch together into a simple promo video. I had a lot more fun editing it than I had expected and I can’t wait to make more!
In total, I have nothing but good things to say about Tolmachoff Farms! Their Pumpkin Days and Corn Maze was a fun way to spend some time outside, and I caught the perfect weather for it! I could’ve done things to maximize my own experience, but that’s the kind of information I’m here to learn and pass on. When envisioning this project, I was hopeful to try out some seasonal activities, and so I did! I’m excited to try out some more things as the holidays roll around. Tolmachoff Farms had some signs up to promote their winter activities, so there may be a chance that I swing back around to check those out… maybe with a friend this time.
