Call It New/Call It Antique
I usually have trouble describing my ideal weekend, but I think I just experienced it. Picture this: new Taylor Swift album, four day weekend, lots of relaxing, AND confirmed plans with one of my best friends. Isabella brought me to Call It New/Call It Antique, one of her favorite places near ASU; and while we didn’t interview on Saturday, you’ll get to meet her soon.
Walking in, I was somewhat surprised to see aisles and aisles of clothes, knick-knacks, media, collectibles, and much more. Every corner turned posed an opportunity for one’s next great find. After coming home, I found out that the store has a 43,000 square feet footprint, which is a little hard for me to wrap my head around. That’s like 18 average family homes! This, however, could explain why we kept getting lost throughout the store.
The little booths that make up an antique store are my favorite, and the ones here did not disappoint. Attached in some of my pictures show the specialty booths that caught my eye. One of my favorites was the Make Your Own License Plate booth, which had professionally cut plates from across the country. I really regret not making my own license plate, but I had fun arranging the letters into different names and words. There was also a quilt shop which had TONS of different items, with a variety of sizes and patterns. I obviously loved the fall patterns, but everything was super cute and well crafted!
In order to enjoy your experience here, I think it’s important to budget yourself a lot more time than you think. Isabella and I grabbed some coffee beforehand, which was a nice treat to have as we walked around. Taking a minute in each booth allows you to appreciate each item and notice the assortment of random things that have all made their way to this place. We kept asking each other, “How did that get here?” or “Why do they even have this?” Not everything is antique or vintage, fitting of the store’s name, I guess. Of course, I highly recommend — especially for the specialty booths, but also for the wide range of items available. There’s something here for everyone, I’m certain you’ll find something fun!
Call It New/Call It Antique is placed in a pretty prime location between Tempe and Mesa, making it a perfect stop if you’re on that side of town. Close to Mesa’s Asian District, you’re sure to find some great local places to eat and shop after you’re finished up here. I can’t wait to explore this area more — if anyone has any recommendations please send them my way!
Call It New/Call It Antique also has a location in Stevens Point, Wisconsin; but it’s about half the size as their Mesa location. Even if you live in Phoenix, the drive out to Mesa is worth it — make a day out of it!
